Fidel Gonzalez, is the current President of the Venezuelan Chess Federation (VCF). He was re-elected for a period of 4 more years in 2017. He has been a chess player since he was only 7 years old winning a lot of national championships and tournaments in all categories. Now he´s a Candidate Master (2013), Fide Trainer (2016) & International Organizer (2014).

He has also been deputy chief of mission in games of the Olympic cycle. He was also appointed as Councillor of the Planning and Development Commission and Continental Assistant by the FIDE´s President Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich.

As President of the Venezuelan Chess Federation, he has achieved a great deal with his team such as: Increasing chess players on fide list (from 650 in August 2013 to more than 7500 on June 2019. When he arrived as President of VCF only 88 chess players had rating fide, now, more than 2175 chess players have gotten it. Also, there were only 3 International Arbiters(IAs), now there are 9 as well as 8 FIDE Arbiters. Previously, there were only 2 International Organisers, now there are 6. Of even greater importance, he has focused a great deal of his work on recognising the chess players of his country, asking and awarding them with more than 130 Fide titles of IM, WIM, FM, WFM, CM and WCM.

Fidel is actually not only PDC Councillor and VCF President, he is also an Entrepreneur (CEO of 5 companies), a member of National Olympic Committee Board. He is married and has 2 children. He is currently studying 4-year Law at UCV (Universidad Central de Venezuela).

Fidel has a Bachelor degree in Economics and has a lot of experience in the politics field as a worker for several state ministries (Presidential Relationships, Commercial Foreign Affairs, University Education, Industry), for more than 12 years. He has integrated several Commissions and travelled for his job around the world. Fidel, likes to play piano and to sing. He is a native Spanish speaker, speaks English and is studying French as well.
